We list daily and list some of the best stuff you ever laid your eyes on! We ship like greased lightening and tell it like it is... Up for your consideration is this 1940's HEDDON "JIM HEDDONS FAVORITE" 5 FT. SPLIT-BAMBOO BAIT ROD No. 850 in TUBE. This auction includes the Heddon #850 "Jim Heddons Favorite" 5 ft. "Heavy" Split-Bamboo Bait Rod with South Bend Rod Bag and Heddon Tube carefully packaged for the winner. The Heddon 850 rod comes from our good friend WC and his lifelong collection of 65+ years. WC has been collecting Antique Hunting & Fishing gear since he was a kid. Our good friend has been a member of his local 'Fur, Fin, & Feather' Hunting Club for over 60 years. Watch for various Bamboo Rods, Catalogs, Lures, and lots lots more! **** SPECIAL NOTE: This particular rod has been re-wrapped with red wraps. The line-guides and tip along with the winding check wrap have all been carefully re-wrapped and carefully varnished just over the wraps. All other varnish on the rod is original. The entire rod has it's original finish except the small areas at the wraps. The cork grip appears to have been cleaned over the years. The exact age is unknown but believed to be from late 1940's era. Photos are mostly flash-off, some do have flash-on and tend to look darker. HEDDON #850 ROD MARKINGS: The rod is marked on three sides of the rod shaft. See the separate photos of each side. Side 1: Jim Heddons Favorite. Side 2: Heddon. Side 3: #850-5-H. The H is for Heavy. The reel seat areas are NOT marked. A close-up photo is seen of the tag on the rod bag. The rod bag reads: South Bend 2600. The tube also has a close-up photo of the sticker. The markings on the tube label are worn. ROD MEASUREMENTS: Total length assembled aprox. 5 FT. HANDLE section 10-13/16". Bamboo Rod shaft 50-1/2". Cork butt-grip 4-5/8". Fore-grip 2". Reel seat areas 3-3/4". SOUTH BEND ROD BAG 64-1/4" by aprox. 2-3/4" tapper down to 2". HEDDON ROD TUBE: 51-3/4" long by 2-1/8" diameter. "JIM HEDDONS FAVORITE" ROD CONDITION: We'll start at the butt of the rod and work our way to the tip. We provide detailed photos below in order from the butt to the tip! While inspecting a rod we look for all blemishes and signs of use. The cork grip areas appear to have been cleaned. There's no serious damage found on either the butt grip or smaller fore-grip. NO large pieces of cork missing! The black tenite reel seat has general wear and aging with hairline scratching and a few small nicks. These are detailed NICKEL SILVER fittings in very fine condition with light hairline scratching and small areas of aging. The rod shaft fits tight and 'pops' when pulled apart. No damage found on the male ferrule. Again, the red wrap at the base of the male ferrule is re-wrapped. NO loose threads anywhere. NO loose guides. The tip is in fine clean condition! ALL red wraps are sealed tight with clean new varnish just in the areas of the red wraps and nowhere else! THE BAMBOO: This is a beautiful piece of darker brown TEMPERED BAMBOO. The bamboo is what we refer to as "Rock Solid" as there are no cracks or hairlines, no weakness. One would say this has aprox. 99% of the original varnish with the 1% being the re-varnished areas just at the wraps. The rod displays as near-original in that the bamboo has general overall use and aging. This includes small areas of soiling, varnish flakes, nicks and rubbing. Now, the overall extent of any wear is general but minimal. Doesn't look like this was ever used much regardless of the replaced guides. A couple of small areas of the varnish has aged from storage getting that sticky look. This is a sleek looking 850 in beautiful overall condition. THE SOUTH BEND ROD BAG: This is a South Bend 2600 fold over bag in fine condition. The handle storage is on one side and the rod storage is on the other. The bag folds over and ties with two small red ties. NO serious damage found, just general aging. NO holes or tears. ALL seams are intact. This is the bag the rod came in when the rod was found. VERY GOOD USED CONDITION for the rod bag or sleeve. HEDDON TUBE: This is a longer HEDDON Tube in fine condition. The label is worn as seen in our photos. This cap is not marked. The tube has general aging with hairline scratching and scuffing. NO large dings or dents found. Yes, there may be a few smaller dents or two but none are considered serious. VERY GOOD ORIGINAL HEDDON TUBE! This is a great piece of Heddon history, there's no doubt's about! The WC rod collection will continue to list into next year so stay tuned-in to the pluglady56 & gfries04 eBay accounts! Keep watching for more great items like this from this collection! Split-Bamboo Bait Rod #850 w/Bag & Heddon Tube is sold "AS IS" as seen below in the detailed photos. We think this would be a great addition for any Vintage Bamboo Rod Collection.
